Croila Croft Glamping

We hope to one day have some unique and bespoke glamping units at Highland Horse Fun and Crpila Croft – these will have a special horsey theme to them !! We have put this project on hold because of Covid and have still to engage with Highland Council Planning Department on a way forward – we have all the units already and they just need to be converted for sleeping use. We hope to have a a glamping place that is slightly different to the rest and will include fire pits, picnic tables, barbeques that can be used by clients and possibly even a covered outdoor seating area just in case it rains !

  • 1: We plan to have two gypsy type covered wagons built on four wheeled drays that were two horse drawn buses that we have that both used to work for HM The Queen on her Balmoral Estate taking tourists from the main car park. Over the years we have had three of them, the first one was wooden wheeled and was sold down to Durham 20 years ago for conversion to a gypsy wagon but we have kept the other two and plan to do the conversion work ourselves – they will have our own unique Highland or Cowboy twist to them.
  • 2: We have two older horse boxes that we no longer use on the road and these are both unusual ones and built with aluminium chassis and fibreglass roofs so they should last a long time. We will convert them both to glamping units when we have time with large picturesque landscape windows on the end where the back door used to be to view the amazing scenery of the Cairngorms to the south of us and wild area of The Dell just over the Railway from us that is home to much wildlife including lots of roe deer. One of the trailers was made by Banbury Horseboxes and is very rare and the other is an old Richardson – both were in use till just recently.
  • 3: The fifth and probably the most exciting glamping unit will be a themed as a “Cowboy Cabin” and will be built in a converted livestock trailer body. That does not sound very exciting but when you see it’s Wild West Rustic appearance with a porch to sit rocking chairs on and another large end window like the trailers but this time to admire the view of Creag Dhubh, a local Graham Hill (at 756m = 2480ft) , this lovely black crag to the West of Newtonmore, and the Monadhliath Mountains is the battle cry of the “Clan Macpherson” and was also the name Ruaridh used to use for his Highland Pony Breeding Stud.
